HOW TO CLEAN YOUR SCALP
Scalp health... what even is that? Can’t I just shampoo my hair? This topic is a little tricky because so many of us struggle with different scalp irritations and build ups, that SHOULD be taken care of, but we’re just a little unaware of how to do so.
It’s a sad truth to admit but, I have personally victimised my scalp in more ways than one. Overloading with product, piling on the dry shampoo, not wearing a hat when out in the sun at the beach / pool. Honestly abusing my scalp and just straight up ignoring it.
WHY A CLEAN SCALP IS SO IMPORTANT?
Keeping your scalp clean and allowing it to breathe is so so important for your hair health. While washing your hair obviously assists, having a deep cleanse every so often is amazing, because poor scalp health can actually lead to hair loss!!
Deep cleansing your scalp regularly will help encourage healthy hair growth and natural oils. It will eliminate yucky build up and exfoliate dead skin cells.
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR SCALP:
There are several different ways to cleanse your scalp. Whether it be with a scalp cleansing product, or an at home make-shift product. I’d like to run you through my two favourite ways to clean my scalp from all of the build-up, that leaves my hair feeling fresh and shinier than ever!
Making your own scalp treatment at home:
I’ve done this several times when I needed a deeper clean from my excessive dry shampoo days! This is what I found works for me:
- Aleo Vera gel
- Apple Cider vinegar
- Jojoba oil
- Bicarb soda (not suited for already dry hair)
When mixing these together sometimes I would add some egg whites to combine them all. I found these ingredients particularly good when my hair was already healthy and pretty much damage free, I just needed to clean up my scalp build up. You can find some more info about this particular blend on healthline.com.
My at home blend did help with build-up, however I found a more oil based approach better for scalp irritations which I get from time to time. You guys will LOVE this one because it’s even easier than the at home blend.
Our Kus serums can actually double up as a scalp cleanse! That’s right… they’re not only the best for nourishing your ends and keeping your hair healthy. You can actually use the Jojoba with Mint serum as a scalp cleanser once a week or month. Using an oil-based scalp cleaner is a lot gentler for more sensitive scalps and curly haired fam.
Benefits of an oil-based scalp cleaner:
You can gently massage your scalp and actually feel all the grime and build up breaking away. Jojoba is perfect for soothing skin and hair, whereas mint actually stimulates hair growth and balances out our scalp and hair oils.
STEP ONE: Pump Kus serum directly into your scalp.
STEP TWO: Massage in circular motions through your scalp.
STEP THREE: Comb through to let any excess build-up break away.
STEP FOUR: Leave in your hair for minimum 15 mins.
STEP FIVE: Wash out (spray heat protect spray in wet hair).
STEP SIX: Dry, style and finish with some serum in your ends.
Let me know if you’ve done a scalp treatment at home and what worked for you.. or if you’ve tried with one of the Kus serums!
Wishing you a happy healthy hair journey! x
