BEFORE YOU BLEACH
Going blonde? It's no secret that this is a big commitment and adjustment to your everyday life. Habits and routines will need to change from hair products, more regular (lengthy) salon appointments for upkeep and day-to-day do's and don't. However if you are set on the switch, we have you covered with some 'must knows' before you go lighter!
1. A LITTLE LESS SUN ACTION
Unlike our darker-haired friends, blonde or lighter coloured locks don't have the same dark pigments in their hair to protect against the UV rays. Steer clear of excess sun when you can, invest in a hat for sure, and protect your locks with a good quality heat protect spray... just like sunscreen but for your hair ;)
Lucky we have one you can pick up! View heat protect spray.
2. PREPARE FOR DRY HAIR DAYS
Bleaching your hair follicles will make them dry. Let's just lay it out there in black and white. When you use bleach, you don't only lift the natural pigment of hair, you also lift the natural scalp oils, sebum and everything else essential that hair needs to maintain volume and health. This is by no means to scare you off from going lighter, it's just to prepare you and the products you may need to now invest in!
Read our blog on dry hair to help with some easy tips and tricks you can do in your every day routine. And invest in a proper nourishing product like our hydrating repair serums. We recommend Jojoba & Sunflower for our blonde babes ;)
3. SAY HELLO TO SPLIT ENDS
Because bleached hair has now lost its natural oils it's always vulnerable and never as strong as darker hair. So if you're seeing the hair dresser more and more often to maintain your beautiful bleached hair, you may have to get used to dry and split ends. Split ends are different from dry ends in many ways. There are also many ways to avoid split ends which is in one of our most favorite blogs 'what causes split ends'. Give it a read for some handy tips you can do to halt the splits at home!
4. INVEST IN PURPLE PRODUCTS
Depending on how light or blonde you're going, you may want to maintain the salon highlights that tend to fade over time. Using purple toners counteract any brassy yellow tones that might start to form, leaving you with salon worthy hair *insert love heart eyes*!
5. KEEP HYDRATED
Now more than ever, it is more important to keep yourself hydrated so that your body receives enough moisture for your skin as well as your extra dry hair. Keep up with your 2-3 litres a day girlfriend!
